4th Ward Alderman for the City of St. Louis

Hello, and welcome! My name is Bret Narayan, and I am proud to serve as the alderman of the new 4th Ward in the City of St. Louis.

I’m excited to go to work for you because our community deserves real representation at the Board of Aldermen. You deserve a leader who is dedicated to supporting our people, both through constituent service and being an effective legislator at City Hall.

During my time as alderman, I’ve worked hard to stay true to that commitment. I’ve fought on behalf of our small businesses during the pandemic, written and passed bills to keep toxins out of our water and air, and I’m committed to fixing the way we fix our streets and improving public safety. And that’s just the start.

With our Board of Aldermen reducing to 14 seats, I know that it’s going to really matter who our alderpeople are. I’m dedicated to doing the hard work to make St. Louis a better place to work, play, and call home.

I hope you find my site informative, and if you’re a constituent looking to reach out, please click the button here to send me an email!

ABOUT ME

I grew up in St. Louis and attended the University of Missouri – Columbia, where I majored in political science before attending Saint Louis University School of Law and serving as president of Phi Delta Phi, the university’s legal honors fraternity. I moved to Dogtown in 2015, and I’ve been involved with the Clayton-Tamm Community Association; the 24th Ward Progressive Democrats, where I served as Secretary; and the 24th Ward Regular Democrats. I have also worked with Dogtown United on Dogtown’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities and with the St. Louis Young Democrats as their Director of Communications.

Before becoming alderman of the 24th Ward, I worked with my brother as an attorney at Narayan Attorneys at Law. My work there focused on helping small businesses and “mom and pop shops,” but also included criminal defense work on behalf of homeless and low-income veterans through the Kaufman Fund. During my time as a lawyer and my work as alderman, I’ve always been committed to providing services to his community, and helping those in need to succeed.

When I first ran for office, my family made me promise not to “pull the ladder up behind me,” and I’ve tried my best to make good on that promise. I believe in working hard to make the democratic process available to everyone, and in lifting up the voices of my community in the halls of power. The 4th Ward, the City of St. Louis, and the St. Louis region need strong advocates with the ability to both work on the immediate needs of our community, and to work towards a long-term vision of a successful, inclusive future for all St. Louisans.
